Where is Brokeback Mountain?

I saw Brokeback Mountain last night and I loved the movie. I was not sure what to expect but I'm so glad that I watched it. It was so honest and true. It is definitely a thought provoking film. I think that if people could open their minds for just a few hours they would enjoy the experience of this film. It really was such a sweet yet tragic film about true love. It's about forbidden love, society's prejudice, fear and honor. This story line takes place in the same state where the real life tragedy of a boy named Matthew Shepherd occurred. This young man was brutally tortured and killed for his sexual preference. My perspective on the movie may be different than some because of my involvement in an alternative relationship. Some of the same emotions in this movie ring true for myself. Love is love, and this film portrayed well that you have no choice in who your heart will grasp. It demonstrates that sexuality can be blurred. You can be straight and fall in love with a person who happens to be of the same sex and gender. You can be gay and love someone of the opposite sex. I am attracted to men, I am in love with a woman. Despite what my partner says, I still consider myself straight. However I now know that I would never deprive myself of love because of someone's sex or gender. If I had done this I would have missed out on the last eight inspiring years of my life. In this movie, this beautiful gift of true love is deprived because of guilt, fear and honor. One character was not brave enough to claim his love and in making this decision lives an empty life. I too know what it is like to be fearful of loving in a world where my character is shamed. Where holding Beth's hand in public may cause our children suffering. For they do not see me holding hands with the love of my life. An amazing, generous person who loves me unconditionally. They see two women, "freaks" touching eachother improperly. They don't know us or our story. Yet they judge. It is frightening to be honest with yourself. It is frightening to love unconditionally. In our society sex and gender is a condition. I will love you but only if you are a man or a woman. If we set these conditions as seen in Brokeback Mountain, we cause hurt. If you cannot be happy with yourself you cannot bring happiness to others. Most of all, when we deny ourselves love we never truly live and die heartbroken after a pointless existence.
