Bending the Gender

I tried not to make a big deal out of it but yesterday I swear that my Father In Law was referring to Beth when he told Chance to "wait until MAMA came home so SHE could do it". Um I was wondering where that came from. I also found some checks the other day that had accidentally been left out with Beth's name on them. So far no one has questioned anything but lots of weird circumstances lead me to believe that Pops knows more than he will admit. Aha ! Finally I knew it! He also keeps saying "honey" and "sweetheart" to Beth which seems like kind of strange terms of endearment from a father to his "son". Don't you think? He never says that to his Grandson. He says things like "pal" or "buddy" to Chance. The funny thing is that since Mops is away his mind seems more honestly open to diverse things and able to explore other aspects of his gender. This whole time I thought that she was more open to alternative lifestyles than he. I am beginning to wonder if his "views" are really a reflection of his masculine role around his wife. Like that is what is expected of him as a man in front of his wife. Who knows for sure. I am just so shocked at how clear cut the extreme gender roles in this family are portrayed. I know that I have lived in a grey gender household for 8 years but I honestly don't believe that this is how most families are. I don't remember my Daddy or even my law officer grandpa holding such stringent masculine views all the time.
