Oh, you're an actress Shannon, think fast! Um yeah "firewalls" that's it! Secure online passwords and such, yeah that's believable. My wonderful in laws came over this morning to visit, brings over some goodies and take the kids out for a movie. Unfortunately the family computer that my father in law uses is out of order today. As the kids and grandma skedaddle outside to play my father in law grabs our "laptop of secrets" and asks if he can use it. Now I know fully well that from even the first screen there is more than a mountain load of incriminating cyber evidence of our super secret identities. Yet as not to blow the whole operation by seeming too suspicious, rather than causing alarm and ripping it it from his hands and screaming "No! No! the secrets, ALL the SECRETS!!!" I calmly suggest that it can be a little tricky and offer assistance. I show him the faulty wires and tell him that some days it just doesn't cooperate. Stalling while I think of a plan. I pretend to try really hard to get on to the Internet but just keep insisting that it's being tricky. I suddenly think of an ingenious idea. I'm like" Oh there we go", acting like I figured it out and then I'm like" Oh no see there are all these firewalls coming up and stuff. I don't know all the secure passwords to get past this. See, David installed some of this new software and stuff and locked it so the kids couldn't get on and mess up any of the files and stuff. Yeah, sorry , we're totally locked out". Ha-ha! It worked! My Father In-law says oh, never mind and runs to the bathroom. Now I'll have some explaining to do if they catch me on it while writing this blog. But safe for the time being!

Um, if you are running Windows XP, couldn't you just set up a guest account and keep your other information secure?

I understand that Rachael is well-intentioned and just trying to help, but that's a really bad idea with even Windows XP, or Vista.
All you'll get out of that is a false sense of security, and somebody will eventually trip-across the information you are endeavoring to keep secret.
Install Linux as a dual-boot and move your secrets into the Linux installation. You'll be far safer that way, and then you can let Daddy In-Law use the machine without stammering, or risk of exposure.
Thanks for letting us peek in on your lives.

Every once in a while I take everything from my computer that may be "incriminating" and move them onto a CD. That way, if someone sees what I am doing or uses my computer, they are unaware of the "tranny-monster" stuff. ;)
