Do you have an awkward time raising your child in an non-traditional home? I know that since we have embarked on this educational journey with our son in public school, I need all the help I can get. We borrowed this book from the library and to my surprise it had a little lesson in it to share. This book was written by Roma Downey (yes, the lady from Touched By An Angel). This story is about a little girl anxious to have the only non-traditional family on family fun night at school. It is just she and her mom in their tidy, neat home. As many of us do from time to time, she compares her life to others around her and feels like a weirdo. With some comforting from Mom she courageously goes to the event only to find that families of all sorts and sizes are there. What is normal anyways? It is love that makes a family, which she comes to realize as she goes home content with their life. My only criticism with this story is that by families directly represented, there was no mention of families with two moms or two dads. The bit of comfort from this story makes it a good one to add to your child's reading list.
